There were plenty of upsets this week and games which surprised me with the result. Some teams got huge wins while other teams failed to find energy. Here is the recap for these eye-grabbing games this Premier League Weekend.
Manchester Derby Man City vs Man United– This game between two teams who are long standing rivals was quite exciting. It started when Anthony Martial won a penalty in the first 35 seconds when Gabriel Jesus fouled him. Ederson went the right way but Bruno Fernandes powered the ball through to give United a 1-0 lead in the 2nd minute of the game. City attacked well but couldn’t get strong shots to really test the young goalie Dean Henderson. In the 50th minute, United doubled their advantage. After Henderson caught the City free-kick, he threw the ball to Luke Shaw who sprinted into City territory. He passed to Rashford who then passed the ball back to Shaw. He megged Rodri on the shot as Ederson was frozen and the ball rolled passed from him and into the back of the net. The Red Devils held City till the rest of the game and grabbed an extremely important win. City are still in 1st with 65 points but the gap is now 11 points as United are in 2nd with 54 points.
Liverpool vs Fulham– Liverpool and Fulham both gave pressure in the 1st half but the opening goal didn’t come until the 45th minute when the visitors, Fulham struck. Salah failed to clear the ball so that gave Mario Lemina the chance to kick the ball in the back of the net. Liverpool, in the 2nd half played much better and applied more to the Cottagers but they still held firm. The Reds failed to win a game and got stunned by Fulham who are now in 18th place with 28 points. Liverpool dropped and are now 8th place with 43 points.
Chelsea vs Everton– This game was quite major because The Blues and Toffees were both right next to each other in the top 5. The scoring opened in the 31st minute when Ben Godfrey did an own goal. Chelsea delivered a cross which he hit into the back of his own net. Chelsea then doubled their advantage 34 minutes after Godfrey’s own goal. They earned a penalty which Jorginho easily scored as his hop sent Pickford the wrong way. Everton failed to score and lost at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea gained very important 3 points. They are in 4th with 50 points and Everton are 6th with 46 points.
These 3 games were impactful in the race for the top spots in the league as well as the race to not get relegated to the EFL championship. From the other games, these were the scores. Aston Villa vs Wolves 0-0, Burnley vs Arsenal 1-1, Sheffield United vs Southampton 0-2, Brighton vs Leicester City 2-1, West Brom vs Newcastle 0-0, Tottenham vs Crystal Palace 4-1, and West Ham vs Leeds United 2-0.
