2021-22 Premier League Review- Leicester City vs Man United

This game at King Power was another epic battle between Leicester City and Manchester United. It was a stressful match till the last whistle. Both teams had their good moments and minutes while also had some bad ones.

In the 1st Half, United were under a bit of pressure from Leicester as their forwards didn’t let United play from the back. They really forced United to give the ball and the Devils were lucky they didn’t concede. Unfortunately for the Foxes, Mason Greenwood scored a cracker from about 5 yards outside the goalie box. He played   some passes with Fernandes and then took a touch onto his right foot. Schmeichel had no chance as the ball went to the far side post and went to the top of the net. It was a stunner from the United homegrown as he relieved some of the pressure. Leicester immediately came up with a response 12 minutes later. Iheanacho won the ball off another bad play by Maguire and passed to Tielemans. Straight away, he lobbed the ball with curve and dip so it was played into the corner. De Gea had no chance and it was an amazing chip by the man who scored the game winning goal that won Leicester the FA Cup. It ended 1-1 at the half. Considering their amazing play, they could have had a lead but had to settle for a draw at the half time.

The 2nd Half didn’t get super exciting until the 78th minute. City had a corner and no United player dealt with it. It came to Perez and somehow landed and Caglar Söyüncü who tapped the ball into the net. It was an easy goal and the go-ahead goal for the Foxes with 12 minutes to go. But, Lindelof and Man United had other ideas. Four minutes later, Lindelof sailed a fabulous ball toward Rashford as he stayed onside. He calmly hit the ball over Schmeichel to equalize for his team. Vardy, though, added another twist and King Power. Just 54 seconds after Rashford’s finish, Vardy tied Mo Salah with 7 goals with a beautiful slicing shot away from David De Gea. Perez took the ball to the end of the field and gave a pass to Vardy who did not waste his chance. He made it 3-2 with 7 minutes to go. To secure the win in the 90 minute stoppage time, Patson Daka tapped a tight angle free-kick to make sure they got 3 points. United conceded another set-piece goal as Solkjaer has a lot to be concerned about heading into Liverpool and Atalanta. The final score was 4-2 as 4 goals were scored in the second half of the game.

As a Man United fan, I’m a bit concerned about what’s going to happen moving forward. Maguire was giving away the ball cheaply and didn’t have a good game. Ronaldo was completely shut down and didn’t do well on the opportunities he got. I didn’t mention this before but De Gea was the only reason it was 4-2. He was making saves out of this world and continued his mind-blowing form. A lot has to change for this club if they want a chance at the title. It was a really good performance by Brendan Rodger’s team and not a good one from Ronaldo’s group. Can United find their form in the next few challenges and can the Foxes play like this throughout the season?

 THE END
