It’s Round Two of Chelsea vs Liverpool as a win for either team would put them back in the title race. Liverpool are dealing with some COVID-19 issues and won’t have Alisson, Firmino, Matip, and manager Jurgen Klopp for this game against the Blues. Chelsea on the other hand won’t have Reece James because of injury and Romelu Lukaku who is not in the squad because of his unhappiness at Chelsea. Both teams are coming off dropped points in the weekend and are trying to get some momentum back.
Liverpool are coming off a 1-0 loss to Leicester in the midweek in a game they blew their best chance. Mo Salah had a penalty saved by Kasper Schmeichel and he also missed the follow-up. I think it’s important to get that out of his mind and focus on this game which is a big one for his team. This team passes so well so I want to see that in this one. They’re very creative with the ball and make things happen on the field. They transition really well and move forward instead of going backwards. Last time they got shut out by Chelsea in the 2nd Half even though they had an extra man but this time they’re a better team.
Chelsea have two problems, injuries and Romelu Lukaku. They received a blow as Ben Chilwell is out for the season, Reece James is going to be out for more than a month, and Timo Werner who is not feeling well will miss the game. On the other side, Lukaku wants to leave Chelsea because he is not getting enough playing time and is not happy with the situation at Chelsea. That’s not exactly ideal for Chelsea as Lukaku is one of the best in the game. Also, they’ve been dropping points as of late as 3 of the last four have been draws. After this game they have Tottenham in the EFL Cup twice and Man City in the Premier League upcoming. A win before these games would make the team better and boost some confidence going into those big games. This team can be great but we haven’t seen them at their best in December.
I believe Liverpool will win 2-1 against the Blues at Stamford Bridge. They still have their top three the same and those 3 combine to be deadly. Jota and Salah have combined to score 25 goals and are the top two goalscorers of the league. This team scores goals and has such good chemistry with each other. They are going to give Thiago Silva and his three centerbacks a hard time in this game. This game should be a thriller from London as the quality of both clubs is amazing.
2nd place Chelsea and 3rd place Liverpool meet for the last time in the Premier League Season and need a win to get back on track. Will this be Chelsea’s bounce back game or will Liverpool start the New Year strong with a win against Thomas Tuchel’s team? We will find out on Sunday afternoon from The Bridge.
