Match Review first 3 Quarters-Tennessee Titans vs Green Bay Packers

In was a snowy night in Lambeau Field, Wisconsin and the Tennessee Titans visited the home of the Green Bay Packers. If the Titans won they would clinch the AFC South division thanks to the Indianapolis Colts loss. The Packers were just trying to maintain their top seed advantage over the New Orleans Saints. These two teams had been good all season and it was a good game between them. The Packers held the weather advantage in the snow and the Titans struggled that game. It was a fairly one-sided game on Sunday night.

1st Half-

1st Quarter- The Packers received the kickoff and took advantage of getting the ball first. They quickly got inside the 10 yard line and then did the play that they do a lot inside the 10. Rodgers threw a simple screen to Davante Adams and he dived into the touchdown. That duo was deadly all season and they hit at all times at you. It was a quick strike drive from the Packers to give them the lead. Mason Crosby missed the extra point and it remained 6-0. Tennessee got the ball and surprisingly they couldn’t get something going on their first drive. Derrick Henry got stuffed and the passing couldn’t find its rhythm. They punted and Green Bay got the ball back. They doubled their lead as Rodgers found Equanimeous St. Brown for a 21 yard score. He was wide open and Rodgers got his second passing touchdown of the game. The couldn’t convert the 2 pointer so the score stayed two sets of six. That pretty much ended the quarter and Green Bay took a commanding 12 point lead over the Titans.

2nd Quarter-The Titans needed to get something going in the second because they found nothing in the first. But they had even more bad new to get the quarter rolling. Ryan Tannhill threw and interception to Darnell Savage who regained possession for the Packers. It was a very disappointing start to the game for the Titans and Derrick Henry. The Packers took advantage of the turnover and got more points on the board. Once again, they got inside the ten and did the special. Rodgers to Adams. They did that combination again and it was successful again. This time the extra point was good so it made it 19-0 as the Titans had yet to get on the board. The next drive ended up in the negatives for the Titans. Ryan Tannehill got swallowed up two times by the Packers defense players. They simply weren’t getting anywhere. This was not a Titans team I had seen in the past before. But their defense did one bright thing for them. The Packers got into field goal range and took the field goal. But the kick got blocked and got returned into Packers territory. But one of the Titans players were offside so the block kick didn’t count and Green Bay gained 5 yards. This time they decided to go for it and they didn’t convert. For the first time in the game Rodgers got sacked and it was a huge loss. The Titans got great field position and had a chance to get on the board before the half ended. Ryan Tannehill finally found the right gear. They cruised down into the red zone and Tannehill found his man. He was under pressure but managed to launch a strike to end zone to his tight end Jonnu Smith who caught the ball for the score. Gostkowski made the point after to make it 7-19. The Packers had less than a minute to get into field goal range but didn’t get there. That ended the half as it was 19-7 Packers. Tennessee received the second half kickoff so they had a chance to get more points at the start of the 3rd Quarter.

2nd Half-

3rd Quarter- Tennessee got the ball and pulled of a superb drive. They got down to a 3rd and 2 as Derrick Henry continued to get short rushing plays. Tannehill did an option play and kept the ball himself and ran. The Packers players thought Henry would get the handoff but they were wrong. Meanwhile, Tannehill sprinted 45 untouched yards for the Titans touchdown. It was a great fake and it worked out perfectly as they got within a one score game. The Titans did not know it at that time but that extra point was the last points they scored in the game. They got glued to 14. On the other hand, the Packers were rolling. Aaron Jones went on a 45 yard run and set up first and goal for them. The Titans could have challenged that play to see if Jones stepped out of bounds but they didn’t. Jones had actually stepped out a little while tiptoeing the sidelines but the Titans didn’t see it soon enough. The Packers took advantage of that. Rodgers found Adams all alone in the end zone and passed to him for the touchdown. Adams was being double teamed but used fantastic footwork to get wide open for his hat trick of touchdowns. Now the score became 26-14 Packers. The Titans got the ball and punted very soon. Rodgers got the ball once again ready to score more. And they did. This time it was A.J Dillon the Packers backup running back for a 30 yard rushing touchdown. He went right down the middle and scored to give them an even more extended lead. 33-14 as the Packers looked to win this battle. Ryan Tannehill still couldn’t get something going. He was under pressure and threw an interception right to Christian Kirksey who got the ball again for the Packers. That ended the third quarter as the Packers were zooming past Tennessee.

I only watched three quarters of that game but the Packers went on to win that game 40-14. The Titans haven’t got a playoff berth yet so they need to win against Houston in Week 17. The Packers played amazing that game and they could make the Super Bowl this year. Their defense showed a lot of strength to grab 2 picks and contain Derrick Henry to less than a hundred yards in the game. This AFC vs. NFC game on a Sunday Night was a game which ended fairly one sided. Final score:Packers 40 and the Titans 14.
