It’s time for the Merseyside Derby in Premier League Week 25 between the struggling champions Liverpool and 7th place Everton at Anfield mid Saturday. Both teams lost their last game with Liverpool blowing their one goal advantage at Leicester 3-1 while Everton got stunned by 18th place Fulham at home 2-0. Liverpool have 6 points in their last 5 games and are on a 3 game losing streak right now while Everton have 5 points in their last 5 games and are playing fine currently. It should be an interesting game early afternoon from the home of the champions.
Unfortunately for Everton, they face Manchester City at home before this rivalry game on Wednesday. They will most likely tie or lose vs City because City has 11 consecutive wins in the Premier League and is crushing every team right now as they hold the first place in the table. Everton’s lovely striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin who scored on the last kick of the game to equalize it vs Manchester United got injured against Tottenham in the FA Cup. He missed the match vs Fulham so they will be hopeful to get him back for both of these important games this week. Another Everton striker that can create goals and chances for his team is Richarlison. Calvert-Lewin and him are Everton’s best players according to me and are such a good duo. Everton has not been in the best form lately but they can steal some more points from Liverpool who has not been playing that well as of lately. If Everton win they will tie Liverpool with points and the table ( points wise) will get even more compact than it already is.
I don’t understand why Liverpool, out of any team, is having the most problems right now. Maybe it is the fact that they don’t really have a proper center back and their defense needs some polishing. With Van Dijk on injury and Lovren on another team, their centre back options are fairly slim so sometimes they use Henderson and Fabinho who are midfielders so can’t produce the things that an actual defender can. Their top 3 has been doing great with Mohamed Salah who has the most goals with 17 of them, brazilian Roberto Firmino who has great feet, and Sadio Mane who is another one of their key players. In this game Liverpool will have to show they won the trophy last season and are the same title winning team. If they get a lead, they have to maintain it and hold it unlike they did in previous games. Also, their goalie Allison Becker will have to make better choices because the Jamie Vardy goal in the Leicester game happened because he came out of his goalie box to make a leap when it was not necessary and 2 goals vs Manchester City were mistakes by him. This team has to clean up their act a little bit more to go back to winning and a win against Everton is a great way to start the momentum back up.
I think Everton will win this game 3-1. They have been really good on the road and away while Liverpool are not playing that great on their home ground, Anfield. Everton can counter attack really well and hit you unexpectedly so that will be a key part of their side to get that going. Until Liverpool buy a defender in the middle slot they will have some nightmares and problems back deep. But one thing about Liverpool’s defense is great, their right back Trent Alexander Arnold and left back Andrew Robertson are phenomenal at set pieces. Their corners and freekicks are wondrous so Everton should be careful not to do fouls in that area and give space on the sides of the field. Both teams have a specialty and it should be an exciting game.
Liverpool vs Everton, the big rivalry of Merseyside. The strong team of Everton vs the defending champions Liverpool. Manager of Everton Carl Anchelotti and Managers of Liverpool Jurgen Klopp both need a win this afternoon. But who will get it? We will find out on a Saturday from Anfield.
