The last match of the weekend and the last match before the international break was Liverpool vs Man City. This match was delivered as advertised on television and paper. The skill level on these two teams are incomparable to any other team in the league. Salah was a king on the pitch that day, Ederson had some great passes and almost assists, and the passing from City was marvelous.
First off, the noise at Anfield was electrifying. That whole stadium was making some serious noise. The 1st half started strong for Liverpool but by the 15th minute, it was all Man City. Every time Liverpool got the ball back, they just gave a bad pass back to City and that is what happened for the next half an hour. It was surge after surge and it must have been a miracle that it was 0 to 0 at halftime. Salah and the forward three barely had any touches on the ball in that half.
The 2nd half was a real thriller and a classic. Liverpool looked like a new team in that half and just seemed fresher. In the 59th minute, the 0-0 deadlock broke. Sadio Mane scored in the bottom corner leaving Ederson with no chance to stop it. Mo Salah provided the pass to Mane and it was 1-0 to the home side. About 10 minutes later, another goal was scored. This time it was by Phil Foden of City after a perfect switch by Gabriel Jesus. His first touch was nice and then he made some moves. He left footed the ball into the right bottom corner and made it a tie again, this time 1-1. The next goal was absolutely gorgeous. Mo Salah took the ball and played a little passing with Curtis Jones. He kept juking City defenders He dragged them to him and then made his world class moves. He kept on going until from a tight angle in the 6 yard box, he right-footed the ball into the far side of the goal and Ederson had no chance to save the ball. It was probably the best goal of the season I’ve seen and was a real smoker. That made it 2-1 to Liverpool with 14 minutes left in the game. That lead did not last for long. Five minutes later in the 81st, Pep’s team came with a response. Kevin De Brunye got the ball outside the box and proceeded with the shot. It took a big deflection off Joel Matip and went the other side Alisson was diving. Alisson might have been able to save it if it didn’t go off Matip but we’ll never know.
It became 2-2 late in the game as both teams were fighting for a winner. Unfortunately, there weren’t any more goals and it finished in a two-two draw. That game was a thriller and had a crazy 2nd half. Both teams would have thought they could have won the game, City in the 1st half and Liverpool in the 2nd. Both teams won’t play next week because of the international break but will be back in action in two weeks. Liverpool are 2nd with 15 points while Man City are 3rd with 14 points.
