It hasn’t even been a full year for how long Erling Haaland has been at Man City but it already looks like a very lopsided Golden Boot race. The Norwegian has already made his mark in the league and is on his way to shattering records. Every time he’s on the pitch, you almost know that he’ll score. That transfer from Borussia Dortmund to City added another threat to an already super team for Pep. Haaland is a very smart player and his football IQ is top class.
What impresses me the most about him is how he puts in the same shift each and every game. He has 20 goals in all competitions so far and it’s like he’s never going to stop. When I watched the Manchester Derby last week, I noticed how his presence was always there. When United put one defender on him, he easily broke free and set up something. When they put more players around him, he created space for Grealish and Foden. Haaland knows when to make a run, when to pass, and where he has to go. His finishes are tidy and they might look easy but are harder than they look. He has every quality a striker would love to have, his height of 6’4, his speed, and his clean finishing. I’ve never seen a player of his quality and I’m sure he’ll continue to score a lot of goals. He pulverizes defenders and makes 90 minutes feel like an eternity for defenders playing him.
It’s been less than half the season but Haaland’s chemistry with De Bruyne has already become amazing. It’s like they’re the new Son and Kane duo, setting each other up every game. Haaland tops the league with 15 goals while Belgium’s Kevin De Bruyne tops the league with 9 assists. They won’t stop, they’ll only get better. How many goals will Erling Haaland score this campaign? When will his show stop, or will it?
